When we first get to the rivers and lagoons where we’re going to fish, we immediately ask ourselves where in these waters the peacock bass are located and where we are going to success.
These are the key areas on the rivers and lagoons to find peacock bass
WATER LEDGES/ WATER STRUCTURE
Water structure as fallen trees, stumps, submerged branches, etc. is where the peacock bass find protection from predators and also these are the perfect areas to ambush baitfish that also have chosen submerged spots to hide.
CREEK AND OXBOW LAKE MOUTHS
The creek mouths and oxbow lake merging currents to the rivers become the common places for baitfish. Peacock bass prefer these areas as a steady food supply.
STONES & BOULDERS
Stones and boulders become an independent ecosystem rich on small fish, crustaceans and insects.
OXBOW LAKES AND LAGOONS
Lagoons are places that gather high quantity of fish when the dry season is getting in and the river levels start to drop. Many peacock bass find oxbow lakes and lagoons as a perfect place to live and feed.
Channels formed by currents in sand beaches are great ambush spots for peacock bass hunting their prey.
River points or corners is where peacock bass have the higher probability to ambush and hunt, this is because of the ‘Y’ formation that give them two different hunting scenarios.
SEAMS AND DROP-OFFS
Seams and drop-offs are an excellent choice for peacock bass to hunt either shallow or deeper waters that serve as hiding spots for prey.
Jarizales are bushes found in the shoreline and offer protection and abundant small fish supply, insects, among other prey for peacock bass.
